This is my first ever mini case study. As an active job seeker, i tend to use job finder platform especially those which can be downloaded in mobile phone instead of applying via email. Kalibrr is one of the applications i often use, so this was the first thing that came to my mind when i wanted to make a UI/UX case study.

⚠ Disclaimer ⚠ I am not affiliated with Kalibrr. This case study is solely made by my own as an user of this application.

Overview

About

Based on their website, Kalibrr is a job finder which connects recruiters and talents (aka jobseekers) based in Philippines since 2013 and started operating in Indonesia since 2016.

Kalibrr can be accessed through website and mobile application.

Objective

Make an user-centered UI design exploration that hopefully have better UX.

🔍 Research

Self Observation

ree

Overall, the UI design is clean since there are not many colours used the design is simple, but as an active user of Kalibrr, I noticed some things that bugged me.

No home page

Features only available in different tabs, but there is a tab on the left that can be acessed if we slide from "Matches" tab.

No dates in "Applications" Tab

I need date information so I am able to know when I applied to a specific job to decide what to do next.

There are many sections in "Profile" page

I have to scroll down a lot to find and input information in every sections. Moreover, Kalibrr claims that recruiters will look at our profile first before going to download our CV.

What is skill test used for?

In mobile app, skill tests are in a hidden tab when we slide to the left side of the application. I wonder, will recruiters really see our assessment score? is it necessary? if so, why is it placed in a hidden place like that?

Inconsistent design

ree

When i opened Kalibrr's website, i saw different UI design with their mobile app. Compared to their website UI, the mobile app is much plain without illustration and minimal colours.

Another thing i noticed is how do i sign up with mobile app? Their website has the option while in mobile app it is nowhere to be found. I figured it out later that we have to input a random email and password, then it will direct you to sign up page. (confused)

To validate my findings, I then decided to observe on users ratings in the App Store (iOS) and Play Store (Android). I also conducted simple interviews with Kalibrr users in Indonesia divided by 2 categories, active users and users who rarely use this application.

Target: Kalibrr users who actively or sometimes looking for a new job.

Until this post has been published, there are 5 users. Questions I asked to them:

  1. How often do you use Kalibrr?

  2. How is your experience while using Kalibrr?

  3. Why do you choose Kalibrr to find a job?

  4. Do you ever face any difficulties when using it?

  5. What do you expect if you have the chance to change the App?

📈 User usability Testing

First, i wanted a quantitative user usability testing so I used the Maze platform.

Task: Apply for a job from search bar

in conclusion, users can access the redesigned application relatively quick. However, some faced difficulties when using the Maze website itself because for them, it is confusing. so I guided the users to use it. In my opinion, it is still hard to do an unmoderated Usability Testing with Maze.

After that, I did a qualitative survey instead, with questions as follows:

  1. What is your experience while using this app?

  2. What did you point out from this version?

  3. Which way would you prefer to apply a job between old version and redesigned version?

  4. Is there any difficulties while using this app?

  5. Do you have anything in mind about the redesigned version? (what to improve or what do you like from this app)

Answers: The UI is good and they like this better than the old version. One user suggested that maybe it will be better if there is a direct option for job levels from the search bar (not inside Filters tab)

What to do next?

To do iterations based on findings, expand the interview targets so the result will be more relevant and representing real users.
